“What are Life Groups?”
Life Groups Are...2-14 people who gather at a specific day and time to learn and grow together. Some groups revolve around specific activities like gardening, praying, or learning new tools. These groups are referred to as PAIR groups (Passion And Interest Related). In other groups, specific books of the Bible, or topical books are studied. These groups are referred to as BOB groups (Book Or Bible). Each type of group consists of 5 different elements:
1)Prayer
2)Biblical reflection (Bible Study or devotion)
3)A shared activity
4)Fellowship/mutual support
5)Outreach/service project
One element is primary in each group. For example, Bible studies will spend most of their time on the second element and gardening groups may spend more time on the third element. However, each group would incorporate all five elements throughout the semester.
Don't have time?
Life Groups Last...just 88 minutes per session. Each group is asked to begin and end on time so you can spend the other 992 minutes of your week as you choose. Life groups run on a semester basis, Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer. Each semester runs 10-12 weeks with approximately a month off in between semesters. At the end of each semester, participants have the option of continuing with the group the following semester, changing groups, or taking a break. Participants and leaders are only asked to make a commitment for one semester at a time.
“Why should I be in a 'life group'?”
Life groups play an important part in our spiritual growth journey. As Christians we are called to a life displaying the fruit the Spirit grows within us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. At Vergennes we believe this growth best occurs in the context of Christian community. Life groups provide the perfect sized setting for growth to occur. Life groups are also a place to meet new people and develop Christian friendships.
“How do I Join A Life Group?”
There are 3 ways to join a life group. 1) Fill out your communication card during worship and indicate the number of the group you want to join on the back of the card. (See group choices in the left column.) 2) Sign up for the group you are interested in at the Connection Table in the fellowship hall. 3) click here and email which group you would like to be involved with along with.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up today! And while you're at it, invite a friend, neighbor, or co-worker to join you!
